Giancarlo Rizza
Giancarlo Rizza is a Research Director and Senior Expert at CEA at the Laboratoire des Solides Irradiés of École Polytechnique. His research focuses on 4D printing of smart nanocomposite resins with a dual objective: introducing multifunctionality in responsive nanocomposite materials and integrating micro- and nano-structuring directly into 3D printing processes.
In addition, he has been working for several years to renew the connections between science and society by creating original formats for public engagement and pedagogical innovation, in collaboration with C’Nano, the Chaire Arts&Sciences, ENSAD, École Estienne, Ruedi and Vera Baur, as well as Théâtre de la Ville and Palais de la Découverte.
He founded and directed for ten years the interdisciplinary electron microscopy center at École Polytechnique (CimeX). In this role, he led the Nan’eau project (recognized as strategic by Université Paris-Saclay), aimed at developing a multi-correlative microscopy platform (optical, electronic, and X-ray microscopy).
He has also collaborated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and served on the steering committee of several scientific and artistic initiatives, including the international conference Radiation Effects in Insulators (REI), the Groupement National de Recherche (GdR) NACRE, the Chaire Arts&Sciences (École Polytechnique, École des Arts Décoratifs, PSL, and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation), and the Useful Fictions Arts & Science Summer School.
He is a Topic Editor for the journal Nanomaterials.
Finally, he teaches part-time at ENSAD (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) as part of the Research and Creation module, focusing on 3D/4D printing.
