Volvox

The Volvox installation stages a dance in a closed, nocturnal environment, like the invisible dance of these single-celled microorganisms, the volvox, silently moving on the ocean floor to the random, sequenced rhythm of a perpetually changing rotational direction.
Here, the remarkable optical properties of bichromatic gold nanoparticles suspended in blown glass drops are exploited, themselves suspended and moving as if on the ocean floor. How can this dynamic life be conveyed in a sound composition?
