And many a blank page crumpled between his hands

A work by Jean-Marc Chomaz and Nicolas Reeves in collaboration with Pierre Bourdon and Quentin Benelfoul, with contributions from Vincent Cusson, Benjamin Guille, and Gilles Reeves. With support from the CNRS, UQAM, and the Arts & Sciences Chair.

In a black-backed enclosure, very fine wisps of mist move horizontally. Like clouds, shaped by human voices that only it can hear, the mist takes on various forms—vortices, globules, rings, arabesques, filaments—before disappearing. Ephemeral and elusive. Far from seeking to control the natural elements, the work invites us to consider them as partners with whom we can compose.
The installation is centered not on the idea that mist is a material whose form can be controlled, like a sculpture, but on the image of the mist and the air surrounding it as autonomous, active entities. The former being heavier than the latter, it has its own dynamic: it responds to sound waves, each time creating unique shapes.
