“Useful Fictions” Summer School, co-organized for this 2nd edition by the Arts & Sciences Chair and the Espace Mendès France / Lieu Multiple of Poitiers, in partnership with the Sustainable Development Chair of the École Polytechnique, La Scène de Recherche (ENS Paris-Saclay), SIANA (Evry), EESI (European Higher School of Image of Poitiers), ENSI-Poitiers, the P’Prime Institute, Les Usines (Ligugé) and with the support of Labex LaSIPS.
A week-long gathering to explore our connections to our plant and digital environments, made more acute by the current context, both health and climate.

LAB1 | “Listening to the World After”
Supervisors: Anouk Daguin, artist and PhD student in Arts & Sciences (École Polytechnique), assisted by Esther Chevreau-Damour (Master 2 in Anthropology, Lyon 2)
LAB2 | “Becoming a Plant: Seeing Through the Body (Infrared Architecture)”
Supervisors: Jean-Marc Chomaz (artist-physicist, co-head of the Arts & Sciences Chair) and 3 researchers from the P’Prime Institute
LAB 3 | “Tepals, Sepals, Petals: Growth in States of Artificiality”
Supervisors: Giancarlo Rizza (Nanophysicist, LSI – École Polytechnique) and Antoine Desjardins (artist, EnsadLab, École des Arts Décoratifs)
LAB 4 | “Immaterial Landscapes – Topology of Flows & the Physical Imprint of Digital Technology”
Supervisors: Raphaëlle Kerbrat (artist and doctoral student at EnsadLab) and Hervé Pérard (General Delegate of SIANA)
LAB 5 | “Facial Recognition: Faces, Worlds”
Supervisors: Nathalie Guimbretière (designer, Ens Paris-Saclay), Hervé Jolly (visual artist, EESI), and Chloé Desmoineaux (artist)
This intensive week concludes with an exhibition at Espace Mendès France on the weekend of July 10th and 11th, to present to a wide audience the creations (prototypes, photographs, videos, drawings, diagrams, etc.) and performances conceived during the week. Useful Fictions #2: “Taking Root” runs concurrently with the summer school dedicated to the Great Green Wall.
